You Can Make Money on Twitter!

It was refreshing to see a great news story come out late last week about how Dell is thriving in the online micro-blogging world.  According to ChannelWeb, Dell reported that so far to-date, they have managed to bring in over $3M in revenue soley through their Twitter account, @DellOutlet.  We often hear great stories about companies utilizing Twitter and Facebook for customer service-based activities, so it is great to hear about a large American success story find a way to expand their sales brand.

Some have argued that Dell's Twitter account is merely just a garage sale, since all of the offerings made on the stream are refurbished PCs and laptops.  I say, WHO CARES!  There are plenty of individuals and businessed out there who are fine with refurbished machines... especially in this economy!  A sale is a sale.  Now if Dell can just improve their customer service, maybe they could get back on track to where they were years ago...

I think the main point here is that you can make money off of Twitter (and social marketing in general) if you have the right strategy.  If I were a small business producing some sort of product - new or refurbished, I would be considering another channel to increase sales, especially one that is free to use!

So now if only Twitter could figure out how to make money!  That is another blog post on its own...
